This has to be one of the best deals around, even at twice the price, because it replaces so many other things, and is so durable.



The containers work nicely for food storage, but they also can be used for cooking. They go from freezer to oven or microwave, and are dishwasher safe as well. Pyrex is practically unbreakable. With normal use, this set could easily last a lifetime. At the current price, they actually cost less than plastic containers, which do not have either the durability or versatility.



If all that's not enough, consider the health benefits. Glass will not leech plasticiser into your food, and there's no dioxin to worry about when microwaving.



I don't usually rave about kitchen items, but after I recieved this set, I rushed back to order another. I'm getting rid of most of the plastics in my cabinets today!

My favorite cookbooks are "The Professional Chef" by the Culinary Institute and "Culinary Artistry. Cooking is my form of therapy. I have owned my set of these for at least 5 years, and possibly longer. I have not broken a single piece in that time. This may not sound like much but I am hard on things, and for all of them to still be intact is a minor miracle in my home. The glass is very tough.



Pros:

1. Glass is very tough, seems almost indestructible

2. I like that they are not plastic, so I feel safe about reheating food in them

3. The lids fit well for the first 4 years or so

4. Replacement lids are available at the Corning and Revere Factory Outlet stores

5. These containers fit well into lunch bags so that you family can take your healthy home cooked food to work or school.

6. The containers stack well inside each other for space cramped kitchens

7. You can bake in these and then cool the food (I place the entire container into a roasting pan filled with ice water) put on the lid and slide the pan into the refrigerator.

8. You freeze can food in these containers



Cons:

1. The lids do stretch and warp over time, I recommend buying extra lids before you need them. My lids lasted approximately 4 years.



Overall, I would recommend these to anyone that likes to cook in quantity and doesn't like to reheat food in plastic. I use these everyday in my kitchen.

I did not buy this set from amazon, but from kmart instead. But I just had to come here and write a review for these amazing storage bowls.



We bought a head of butter lettuce 6 weeks ago. I had no place to store it in the humidity bin in our fridge, so I plucked all the leaves off the lettuce and put them in the 7 cup round bowl. Then I put the bowl in the fridge and forgot all about it.



Come tonight, I am cleaning the fridge and find the bowl with the lettuce still in there. I was curious as to how well the bowl worked, so I thought I would try a couple lettuce leaves.



The results?



THEY ARE AS FRESH TASTING AND AS CRISPY AS THE DAY I BOUGHT THEM!!! I am not kidding! Absolutely zero wilting, decay or even mold. Now if that isn't amazing storage, I really don't know what is. Keep a head of lettuce in a plastic bag for a week in the fridge and see what it turns into.



I also tried a leaking test after I read some of the reviews here. Mine didn't leak any liquid at all and I tipped the bowl several times.



If you do buy these bowls in person rather than online, check the lids - make sure they are tight fitting. I did this and my bowls have never failed me. I also handwash the bowls and lids, so I'm not sure if that also keeps them in good shape, as opposed to the dishwasher.



Glass is extremely hygienic, does not carry odours and is so easy to clean - it doesn't stain unlike plastic!



I'm soooo excited that the Pyrex bowls kept the lettuce fresh. They worked even better than our humidity bin! I should call Westinghouse and tell them!



I can't wait till they are on sale again so I can get more. They are wonderful and so worth the cost even if they aren't on sale.

they come in different sizes so you can pack whatever you like. I haven't had any problems with leakages, the lids are pretty tight. Just make sure you handwash the lids so they don't end up warping like typical plastic tupperware, though I've thrown mine into the dishwasher dozens of times and the lids are still fine.



These are great not only for packing lunches, but also for steaming and baking small food proportions!



The only "problem" I have with these is like any dish you nuke for a few minutes, it gets super hot and hard to grab on to. Just make sure when you get these out of the microwave to use some mitts (I use a few layers of paper towels, scrunch them up and grab onto the dish) before you drop the whole thing.

When I initially received these I was disappointed by how small they were (I didn't read the description) I have bought another set since them because I absolutely LOVE THEM. These are the perfect size for one or two serving make ahead meals for 1 or 2. Good for soups or casseroles. Straight from the freezer to the microwave or oven so my poor hubby has something to decent to eat when I am not able to cook.

The Presto Poplite Popper is the same as the (more expensive)Presto Orville Redenbacher's Popper. I emailed Presto. They said "Functionally there is no difference between the two corn poppers". So save some money and get the Poplite. This popper works awsome. It blows away my old air-popper. It pumps out the popcorn super fast, with very few unpopped kernals.

At first- I experienced ALL of the cons that some of the other reviewers listed with the Presto Popper.

After lots of experimenting- I found solutions for all of them, and often enjoy a "full flavor" HEALTHY buttered/salted bowl of popcorn (inexpensive too!)!





This is how I now make "YUMMY" popcorn!

This takes a little extra effort, but the rewards are well worth it!

For this to work, you MUST NOT LEAVE UNNATTENDED, "for any reason"!

1. Instead of pouring the popcorn in a cold machine- I first preheat it by plugging it in for at least "3" minutes, with the top "completely off" (pour out any old unpopped kernels, before plugging it in!)!

While waiting- I put kernels the measuring cup, microwave my "good tasting" butter substitute (see #2), and fix drinks...

a. I now pour the kernels in, and place the top on, BUT DO NOT PUT THE MEASURING CUP ON TOP YET! This way the kernels, don't BLOW into the bowl..., they just circulate and stay inside & bowl stays cool!

b. As soon as you hear the first small pop (about 1 minute), QUICKLY! Place the measuring cup on top. The popping will soon be VERY rapid!

c. If the popcorn builds up, and does not blow into the bowl, it will burn. I hold onto the still cool top, tilt and firmly shake/tap/tilt... the machine until kernels fall into the bowl, and start blowing in on their own. Leave a few extra seconds for all kernels to pop.



2. Now for the "good tasting!" butter substitute-

Update#1!- I now prefer organic butter, and finely ground (coffee Grinder...Tnx!)Natural/Healthier (processed salt is bad for you, and so is ANY margerine Google... it!) "Himalayan" mined Sea Salt from Swanson... is GREAT (dry/pink)!

Update#2!- If you melt butter... in the cup on top, with ANY air popper! It WILL eventually crack & split!

a. If you must use margerine- I place 1/4 cup of "Country Crock Light" brand margarine (#1 in taste tests, NO trans fat, no cholesterol, cooks/melts... just like butter in ALL recipes/frying..., about $2.50 for a 3 lb tub) in a microwave safe ceramic/glass cup (no plastic EVER in microwave/BAD for you!).

I heat it on 5 for 10 seconds. Then stir well, and microwave for another 5 seconds, and stir well one last time. I then stir in a teaspoon of "Butter Buds" seasoning (for butter flavor)

Ready to pour on top of popcorn, and "quickly" stir in thoroughly with a coffee spoon.



3. For people on low-sodium!- Shake on some "AlsoSalt"- Excellent tasting "sodium free" Salt Substitute, that tastes MUCH like salt (no aftertaste...!)!

Not in most stores yet, but you can find/buy it online with a Google... search.

Comes in three flavors- Regular, butter, and Garlic (all are "EXCELLENT" for ALL cooking...).



4. Shake on some Parmesan Cheese/or Garlic..., for a GREAT taste treat!

Trust a guy who eats popcorn every day - this is the one. Yes, you may get a stray kernel or two at the beginning and a few more at the end. This popper is much better than the others I've tried (3 other models).



This one also creates fluffier popped corn than average which is nice.



It's available for even cheaper at a certain retail behemoth that starts with Wa.

Perhaps even better. Not only does it pop nearly every kernel of at least one brand (I do believe some brands of popcorn perform better than others, but that's for another review) but it is remarkably easy to clean. I have not even been tempted, much less succumbed, to use butter.



As others have pointed out, you will need to unplug it rather than have it turn off when it is done. I view this as a safety feature. If it had an auto-off, the opportunity to just leave it popping while you popped into another room to pop in a DVD would be too great. If the auto-off failed, it would have to be designed to call the fire department. All in all, I prefer the former to the ladders.

Received my popcorn machine. Used slightly less than half a cup. Made more popcorn than two bags of the microwaved bagged popcorn I was previously using. Took two and a half minutes like the instructions said. Two ... TWO kernels didn't pop. THAT'S IT !!! No flying hot kernels came flying out. After it was done, I let it sit for a few minutes to cool down and put it away. One word came from the two of us ... WOW !!!

Before I get into this review, we have to understand the product we are looking at: a George Foreman ELECTRIC grill. George Foreman products are essentially useful variations of hotplates. In this case, the hot plate takes the form of a grill (with a stand, a dome cover, a large cooking surface with raised grooves etc...).



That being said, this product caters to people (me) willing to try a product that is not a traditional charcoal grill, could be useful in smaller spaces/porches, looks like it is easy to use and clean up, could potentially cut some fat (never hurts, right?), and seems like it will work well as a good back-up grill or a quick solution to throwing mini-bbqs requiring even heat distribution without the hassle of buying/lighting/dumping coal. If that's you, then read on...



Here, I'll try my best to outline the grill's pros and cons, as well as do a quick, inevitable comparison it to a traditional charcoal grill.



PROS:

The pros of this grill basically equal the pros of using hot plates in general:

1) Quick Heat - The whole surface heats up very quickly (you'll be ready to cook in a few minutes after you twist the switch)

2) Design - Basically you have the stand, a bottom dome, the flat grill that sits on the bottom dome, then the lid (top dome). You can easily remove the flat grill part to use indoors separate from the stand, and it also makes for easy cleaning since you can just throw the flat grill surface in the sink.

3) Easy to Clean - The grill surface is relatively easy to clean. Understand, grease is never easy to clean. But in my situation, i wipe off the chunks of grease with paper towels, then run hot water over it in the sink (yes it fits in my sink) and wash it with a soapy sponge. It's basically like cleaning a big oily plate by hand in the sink, however easy or hard that is to you.

4) Space Saving - The bulk of the materials are where it should be: the grilling surface. Everything else (aka the stand) is small and portable.

5) Easy to Assemble - A no brainer. Put the pole of the stand into the foot of the stand. Attach the grilling surface to the bottom dome. Stick that whole thing on the stand. Then put the cover on top. Took a few minutes while I was watching TV.

6) Great Tasting Food - Of course this part is important. I tried cooking everything unseasoned and it just tastes great. I mean, this this one thing I love about hotplates...food tastes good without a lot of seasoning. I cooked unseasoned burgers, top sirloin, chuck roast, kielbasa..it was fast, it tasted good, and it had good looking grill stripes on it when I was done.



Cons:

Seriously, not much that I can think of. If I had to be picky:

1) Could be a little heavy for people with a bad back?

2) When you lift it by the handles, the stand comes out (since they're not really "attached"....the grill just sits on the stand.) So you gotta lift it by the pole of the stand, really...this isn't even a con truthfully.

3) People complain about the grease not dripping into the pan. Well, it's a hot plate with grooves and a hole in it for grease to drip. Of course not all the grease magically swims toward the magical grease drip hole. But still, it works fine...I didn't notice sever grease build-up that stood in the way of my grilling.



Comparison to a Traditional Grill:

Really, there shouldn't be a comparison. Obviously this is not a charcoal grill and should never be compared to one. They are just 2 different things, and so they make food taste different: traditional grills basically fire cook your food through the coal's heat so you get the taste of charcoal while this product essentially "pan sears" your food. I'm a long time lover of all kinds of BBQ, and charcoal grills are great fun, make great tasting food and really cannot be replicated. You shouldn't be buying this grill to ever *REPLACE* a charcoal grill; it should be bought to be a 2nd grill that's great for rainy days or a primary grill if you really have no space and don't have time/space to deal with lighting and dumping charcoal.



Overall, this grill is an electric hot plate with raised grooves that makes great tasting food quickly, quietly, and easily. And for what it is, it's a SUPERB product (and relatively affordable too!). Go get one! I didn't regret my purchase and I don't think you will either.

Originally I saw my mother's George Forman grill (smaller indoor one with lid). Then I saw my brother's Party Size grill. Both of them love their grill. I was able to taste the food from both and found it very tasty and easy to use. I decided to do some investigating on my own intending to purchase the party size grill, when I saw the indoor/outdoor grill. I was impressed with the fact that it appeared to be a bigger cooking surface and the price I found was within reason. I purchased it for the purpose of using it as an extra grill for a cookout I was having. No one used the gas grill at all. I have since used it indoors without the stand, making it convient on rainy days. It is the easiest grill to use and clean that we have ever owned. You can cook everything evenly, because there are no coals to level out. It can easily hold 4 to 5 steaks, 10 big hamburgers, and the list goes one. I am sure there are some drawbacks to those that swear by gas/charcoal grills, but my gas grill has found a permanent residence in our shed, while George sits ready to use at any time indoors or out on our back porch. I am so impressed, that I am purchasing one for my parents for Christmas, to replace the charcoal grill that takes for ever to heat up and messy to clean. I'm sure they'll love it too!

I bought this grill 4 months ago and have used it several times per week ever since. I am a very lazy cook with 3 hungry teens and a hubby who eats like he's a heavyweight boxer. So, I needed something that would cook and clean-up as easily as possible. I can turn on the grill (it has an adjustable thermostat), take out a package of frozen chicken, hamburger patties, whatever, prepare it as usual, and the grill is ready to go to work. Dinner is on the table in no time. Its non-stick surface is just that, making clean-up simple and quick.

I am quite happy with the surface area, as I can easily fit 8 large burgers on at once. I live in the frozen north, so the fact that this grill will also work indoors is plus.

It's portable, reliable, easy to use and clean, and a bargain compared to other outdoor grills.

George put his name on a very good product.

Update: I have owned this grill for 2 1/2 years now and it still works like new!

Florida in the summertime is a difficult time for those of us who love outdoor cooking. It's rather hard to keep charcoal lit in the middle of a downpour - and those downpours happen just about every day this time of year. What's the solution? This grill! I set it up in the kitchen, plug it in, and I'm ready to cook.

This grill has a large cooking surface, sufficient to handle 8 hamburgers with no crowding. It can also handle 6 large chicken-breasts or 4 good-sized steaks. The non-stick surface allows you to turn the meat often without tearing it. Don't use metal utensils with this grill! You'll damage the coating.

Cleanup is a breeze. I let the grill cool down to where it can be handled with bare hands, and then wipe off the worst of the grease, bbq, or whatever with a damp paper towel. Then I put it in the sink and hose it down with hot water. A few swipes of a soft soapy sponge removes any remaining traces, and a final hot rinse takes care of the soap. This method preserves the non-stick surface, which other reviewers have complained about.

I use the grill at least twice a week. Sometimes more. I never thought I'd give up my old charcoal grill, but I have. "Big George" has made a convert out of me!

 "If you like Foreman grills and you like ribs, get this puppy" 2002-05-06

Of all the Foreman grills I've seen and used (and I now own three of them), This grill cooks the most food at a time (even more than the Grande sized steel indoor/outdoor that's [money] more expensive), and in my 30 year old house, I've never had a power outage due to the grill. Those who have trouble with the Grill's electricity might want to look into the deeper problem they're having. It's NOT the grill.

Cooking times should be about the same as a gas grill. I cooked chicken, steak, shrimp, and veggie skewers for about 2 minutes a side (for 8 total minutes) per skewer. With the marinade I used, it tasted REALLY good. For steak, go 6 a side. Don't overcook your steak. Leave it Medium rare.

Chicken: 6 minutes a side. Just like steak. I'm talking about skinless, boneless breasts. I haven't tried drumsticks.

For steak, use salt, pepper, accent, garlic salt, and Montreal Steak seasoning on both sides of the cow. Don't use A1, don't use Worcestershire. I swear it'll taste a lot better than the 'burnt' flavor you get from steakhouses who think all it takes to cook a steak is setting it under a flame. Fire shouldn't be your only steak seasoning! And for those who think the Grill doesn't make the meat taste good...well no kidding! That's why you SEASON MEAT. You're cooking on METAL! HELLO!!!!

Washing this thing is a breeze, no matter how long you leave it sitting. I could leave the cooktop sitting for a week, and it'll still be easy to clean. It's easier to clean than the smaller Georges.

Some mention having to turn the meat over when you cook on this grill. That's very true, but you should have to do the same on the smaller George grills, even with the heating element on the top. Even in smaller grills, I ALWAYS turn the meat over halfway. That makes for even cooking. Don't be so lazy. All you have to do is turn meat. Nobody's asking you to cure cancer.

I still use the small Foreman (the family size) for cooking on thick steak at a time or about 3 or 4 chicken breasts. But when I'm cooking for several or if I'm cooking RIBS, I use this dome topped barbeque. It's totally Rockin'!

This knife is such a value. I have always had a hard time accepting the high-prices on Wuesthoff or Henckel knives because I never felt the VALUE was worth it. Boy am I glad I held out for the Victorinox knife! This knife, also known as Forschner, is consistently sharp. Just a few swipes of the sharpening steel and its good as new again. I use this knife and a 6" every day. The handles are comfortable and do not get slippery when wet. They are practically the only knives I use. I wash and wipe dry after each use (NEVER put in the dishwasher). I think you'll be as pleased as I if you try this knife.

This is the chef's knife I've been looking for. The blade is the right balance between stiff and flexible. The perfectly curved shape automatically starts that rocking motion that makes chopping a breeze. I've been skeptical about ever developing the ability to chop like the chefs on cooking shows. No longer. And to think -- it was my bad knives to blame all this time! I'm buying several of these to give as Christmas gifts this year.

I to bought this knife because of the rating in Cook's Illustrated. I have Henckels and was interested in something to use in more utilitarian situations. I didn't want to baby it; I wanted to use it and then put it in the dishwasher and forget about it. After using this knife I realized that I made a mistake in ever buying the Henckels. They now seem heavy and clumsy in my hand. Every time I reach for a knife I grab this one. I only bought one knife because I wanted to see if it would hold an edge and to see how hard it would be to re-sharpen. Well after a year of constant use I still don't know how hard it will be to re-sharpen because I haven't had to do that yet. It was yesterday while slicing tomatoes that I realized just how fantastic this knife was. Here I had a knife that hadn't been sharpened in a year and I was slicing tomatoes like I was using a seriated utility knife! The only reason I don't have more than one is because my magnet is full of Henckels that I don't like to use. Anybody want to buy a set of totally babied Henckels? I need more knives I like to use.

It's not often that one finds a product that's both visually attractive AND functionally satisfying. This kettle is one of those rare items: the shiny stainless steel body is beautiful to look at, and it boils water very very quickly! It features a nice big and sturdy handle which is very comfortable, and the spout is perfectly designed so that you'd have to be a real klutz to spill things. The cordless feature is wonderful, I tried a cheap ten dollar "Hot Pot" for a day or two and hated having to deal with the cord, plus that model doesn't have automatic shutoff despite what it says on the box---huge fire hazard! There is also a power-indicator light and water-level indicator gauge which are both handy, and I like that there is no exposed heating element inside which would be a pain to clean. Instead it's all smooth clean lines, inside and out!



Sure the outside of the kettle does get a little hot so you probably don't want to have this within reach of toddlers or anything, but if your toddlers can get up on your kitchen countertop then you have a LOT of other problems as well! I appreciated not having to deal with how plastic inevitably gets dirty-looking and sometimes leaves a funny taste in the water.



My only slight concern is that the lid needs a little bit of force to shut completely...probably some kind of insulating seal that shortens the time needed to bring water to a boil, but makes me wonder how durable that part of this kettle is going to be. Oh well, will find out in a few months or (hopefully) years, I suppose!

I bought this after I was so disappointed with a Breville one. The pot does get hot but I don't have any children or pets to worry about. The boil time is very fast and there is no coil on the inside so I do not have to worry about the build-up or rust I have experienced with other kettles. The water tastes good and clean. For this price it is very affordable! I do have to admit that the pot seems a little cheaply made, but I didn't expect much since it seems to be less than half the price of others of the same volume and style. I am very happy with this!!



Update (more than a month later): this is still working so quick and perfectly! I couldn't be happier!

I needed a second kettle and didn't want to shell out about $90+ for another Braun WK600 Stainless kettle (which I am happy with). So I bought this Aroma. Not as heavy, but more aesthetic, boils water fast and fully satisfactory. While I have had for less than a week, it's performed very well.



One reviewer said that the "on" switch at the bottom of the pot broke. I noticed that it takes a very light touch to engage, so maybe if a heavy touch is used, this switch could break. Time will tell whether it's a durable product but at this time I'm very happy with the kettle.

Whether for tea or or hot oatmeal, this water kettle has performed perfectly. Before I purchased this I tended to use the microwave to heat water. Can't believe what a waste of time and energy that was, not to mention possibly unhealthy. This kettle is even faster than your stove top.



The interior is about 98% metal except for a very tiny amount of plastic. I didn't taste anything bad regardless and my sense of smell/taste is fairly strong.



My only concern is that the instructions clearly say to unplug the kettle when not in use. There's an auto shut-off after the water is boiled so either the manufacturer is being extra extra cautious or they believe there could be a problem. Would prefer to just leave it plugged in and not worry about it, but I follow the directions.



A great buy overall - have owned it for months now without a problem.

After having bought and returned the stylish but overpriced Breville (which did have a bad odor as other reviewers have noted), I have owned this for seven months now and give it a very high recommendation. It gets heavy daily use in our house and functions perfectly. Yes, it is a bit noisy like all electric kettles, and it is warm/hot to the touch as it contains boiling water. Some have complained that the sight tube is under the handle and hard to read, but it's easy to get used to and it's in a protected location. I like the fact that almost all of the material which the water contacts is stainless steel (the sight tube is plastic). If this one were to wear out, I would buy another.

I absolutely adore this griddle, and I use it almost every day.



At first, I wasn't sure that I wanted a cast iron griddle. They are HEAVY and not dishwasher safe . . . so I tried a few nonstick brands first --top dollar brands with high ratings.



I hated them. The nonstick surface was inferior. On a reversible griddle, the underside became sticky and difficult to clean. The heat was distributed unevenly. One claimed to be dishwasher safe, yet when I put it in the dishwasher, some of the nonstick surface came off.



I am extremely health conscious, and I use very little oil when I cook. Food often stuck to the "non-stick" surface -- go figure.



I wanted to find a great griddle that I could use for many things, including cooking like the chefs in Japanese Steak Houses -- I dreamed of using a small dash of my favorite oil and flinging shrimp, chicken and veggies on the griddle like a pro. No, I didn't think I could toss my tools in the air or catch the shrimp in my pocket . . . I just wanted the flavor and the ease of cooking.



By this time, I was on a quest, and the non-stick stuff just wasn't cutting it. I did a little research, and I learned that pros recommend the Lodge griddle, so despite my apprehension, I thought I'd give it a try.



Wow! The pre-seasoned surface is perfect and better than any non-stick surface I have ever used. Just a tiny bit of non-stick spray is all I need, and everything from pancakes to eggs flip with ease. Grilling Japanese style works perfectly.



On the grill side: whole steaks, chicken, fish -- fabulous, fast, and everything has those beautiful grill lines. Nice for grilled vegetables, too.



The griddle is indeed heavy, but it's okay. I wouldn't recommend lifting it if you have serious muscle or joint problems, and I wouldn't want to drop it on my foot, but otherwise, go for it. I'm a softie, and if I can handle it, so can you.



As for not being able to put the griddle in the dishwasher: I don't believe I'm going to say this, but I don't care about having to handwash it. The griddle cleans so easily, a few swipes and I'm done. If I forget to clean it and wake up to it the next morning (okay, so I'm not Suzy Homemaker), I just lay it straight across the top of my sink -- not IN the sink, but rather, balanced from edge to edge, on top . . . and I run a little water over it, let it set for a few minutes, and it's easy to clean.



A word of advice: Just as it says in the instructions, you need to clean the griddle without soap (water only) to preserve the pre-seasoned finish. However, should you want to use soap, you can. There are instructions included in how to re-season the griddle -- it's easy.



I frankly didn't like the idea of not cleaning with soap. I didn't feel as though the germs were destroyed . . . but soap doesn't really kill germs, it merely works as a surfactant that makes water wetter so things become easier to clean.



If you want to kill germs, heat is one of the best ways to do it. Every time you use the griddle, you preheat it on the range for about five minutes or so -- you're killing far more germs than if you had used soap!



You can also rub your griddle with a very light coating of oil, stick it in a hot oven and disinfect it that way (this is also similar to how you reseason it).



This is one of the easiest, most wonderful kitchen tools I own. It is a breeze to use, I feel like a pro flipping all that food around. Everything comes out great, and it is very easy to use, and food does not stick.



I have since added six more pieces of cast iron to my collection, one triangle cornbread/scone, a round muffin/biscuit, and four cast iron skillets. Two of the skillets are antique -- talk about well-seasoned! I do not use the bread/muffin bakers as much as I thought I would, but I use the skillets almost every day. I love them.



PS: I remember reading somewhere that using cast iron also adds iron to your diet. A nice extra, yes?

Goodness - I see two chief complaints posted here: First, some people say it's heavy. Well, yes, it is. It's over 200 square inches of iron, folks. The weight is clearly advertised, so I'm having a hard time understanding this complaint. The second complaint some have is uneven heating. Lodge could fix that - all they have to do is make it thicker - and much heavier, and even more people would be unhappy about the weight.



Since the number of comments about the weight and the uneven heating seem about equal, I'd say Lodge did a great job of hitting a happy middle ground. Personally, I count on a little uneven heating, I'll sear breakfast chops on one end over a high burner and flip eggs on the other over a lower burner - I've even been known to run mine on just one burner, cooking on one end and warming on the other. When I was a grill cook, that's how I ran my grill, hotter at one end. You also have to allow for some "settle time" for cast iron - compared to aluminum, it's a fairly slow heat conductor, which gives cast iron it's wonderful thermal stability. But it takes time for the heat to distribute, so give it a few minutes.



I can't comment on the factory coating - I strip and season the cooking surfaces on all my iron, new or used. I made one modification to mine, which Andrew pointed out - I took a dremel and ground a shallow notch in the outer lip of one end of the grease gutter to help pouring the grease out - if you do this, be sure to smooth the edges of the notch to avoid heat stress cracks - they love to start at sharp corners - and don't make it too deep - just a small notch makes a big difference when dumping grease.



While I'm at it - I'm a heretic - a blasphemer - an apostate. My confession? I sometimes clean mine with soap - to be more precise, detergent, which most modern dish soaps actually are. I think the "no soap" thing is a bit of mythology that's come down to us from Great-Grandma, whose dish soap was basically lye and some type of animal fat (my grandma used bacon grease for her soap). So yeah, maybe lye soap was a bad idea, but it had a very different chemistry from today's dish detergents, and as far as I can tell, modern detergent won't touch the baked-on grundge on the bottom of my aluminum and enamel cookware, and they don't touch my properly seasoned iron either. I do always make sure to rinse very thoroughly, and re-oil after cleaning, however, as that thin film of oil is life to cast iron.



I love this grill on the cooktop, but if you want to see this beauty at it's best, and you have at least a 20" charcoal grill, set it on your charcoal grate and have some fun. I don't think mine ever cooled off during the week or so after hurricane Charley, while we had no electricity. I had stocked up on hardwood charcoal before the storm, and as my neighbor's fridges warmed, and their freezers thawed, they kept bringing me food to cook before it spoiled - and of course, they shared with the cook. The neighbors saved some of their food, the Lodge grill got quite a workout, and my family ate very well!



It's a well-made product. It's American. And it's a great value. What's not to love? Just don't drop it on your foot - did I mention it's heavy?

I just received my griddle last week and I've been using it daily with excelent results every time. Mine arrived with a few minor scratches on the preseasoning but all of them seem to be disappearing quite soon (I spray a little pam all over the griddle before using it). I cooked some hamburgers on the grill side which turned out delicious and they got those great grill marks on them also. I've had no sticking problems at all with this thing so far. Cleanup is easy providing you have a stiff brush, a large sink and the strong arms required to carry it from the stove to the sink every time you wash it (this thing weighs 15 pounds). I highly recommend this griddle to anyone, it's very well constructed and looks like it will last a lifetime with proper care.

I've owned this grill for over a year now, and I want to let you know how it has worked out so far.

It fits over two burners, so it's great for cooking several items at once. It heats evenly but tends to overheat a little with the burner at the highest setting. (DUH!). Even then, I have not experience damage to my stove-top.

I love the way it "releases" everything it cooks. I have cooked the best Japanese style grilled beef/potatoes, South American arepas and cachapas, and everything in between. You name it, it can do it!. Even after I grill fish, or anything which makes a mess, all you do is pour some water on it while it's hot, and wipe it down with a terry cloth. No soap is needed. Then I cover the surface with a light oil rub and it's ready for storing. In fact, mine sits on the stove top for the most part, and it blends nicely with my kitchen. I recommend that for older folks having difficulty lifting it. You practically never have to move it, if you don't want to.

I live in a condominium and chose not to buy a patio grill. I don't need it with this grill.

When I received my Lodge grill/griddle a few days ago, I was stunned with how just plain beautiful it is. It is going to sit on my stove all the time, across the burners on one side, probably with the grilling side up to remind me that I can grill anything any time I want to.



I've never had a double-burner grill before, so I've experimented with turning on one or both burners; setting the burners on different settings; and cooking foods one normally would not cook on a grill on the grill side (eggs this morning, along with the bacon).



There is no better way to get the hang of cast iron cooking than to cook eggs. If you've got the seasoning right and the temperature right, you've got the best non-stick egg-cooking surface in the world. If you don't have it right and the eggs stick, just scour the pan with one of those dark green pot-scrubber pads (no soap!), rinse well, rub in some oil with your fingers or a napkin, and try again. If you don't cook something very acidic like tomato sauce in/on your cast iron, it will get so splendidly non-stick you will think you died and went to heaven.



I used my eggs-on-the-grill experiment to get a feel for the best temperature for the piece with only one burner on. The first time I did it, the eggs hardly stuck at all...so that's a great testament to the pre-seasoning.



What's nice is that, even when using only one burner, the entire piece heats up, so when you've finished cooking something on the side with the hot burner, you can move it over to the other side (the one with the burner off) and the food stays beautifully warm while you cook something else. I haven't tried pancakes on the griddle side yet (because I'm in the early stages of Atkins' diet), but I can tell this would be super for cooking up stacks of nice, warm, perfectly cooked pancakes.



When I first got it, it did smoke a good bit; I think this is because I had the heat too high...or maybe it just needed to smoke a little to settle it down. It's not smoking now.



I know this is a rambling review...I really just wanted to say this is a beautiful piece and I'm very happy to have it in my kitchen.

I had been researching dehydrators for months and finally decided on this one. I am happy I did. I have dried veggies, fruits, made jerky and fruit leathers so far. It is easy to use, has great recipes and works well. It is nice to be able to give the kids snacks that are not full of sugars and things no one can pronounce. I only wish it had a timer. I will probably use a regular timer and plug it into that.

I was so surprised at how well this dehydrator works

expected it to work okay but not this good!

I put 5 pounds of beef to dry, expecting it to take at least a day.

5 hours later and it was done!

This was thicker sliced than the paper thin I usually do

on top of that!

I love that the heater and fan are on the top

that makes clean up after jerky

a breeze.

My sister just bought one too and is very happy she did.

We both contemplated on buying the Excalibur one but

this by far is a better deal for your money.

I have had it a week now and have used it almost every day.

With the excellent quality of this dehydrator I expect to get

many , many years of use out of it



Update...

over a year later and we found that we needed more than one dehydrator, so we purchased another one of these with extra trays, screens.

we were hooked on dehydrating...so easy and no food spoilage!

We found ourselves needing even another dehydrator to keep up with all the

fresh produce and meats that we would purchase in bulk to save money.

This time we bought an Excalibur 9 tray with timer.

I have to say, we should of just bought another Nesco American Harvest

FD-75PR. The Nesco dehydrated the corn faster than the high priced Excalibur and I found I did need to rotate the trays in the Excalibur,

because the foods on the back of the trays dried faster than the foods on the front of the trays.

So ...if we need another dehydrator down the road we're sticking with

Nesco American Harvest FD-75PR 700-Watt Food Dehydrator and putting the extra cash we save in the bank!

This is one of those items that does exactly what it says it's going to do and does it without a fuss. It's simple to use (even I haven't screwed up anything with it yet) and works extremely well. So far I've used it to make both beef and venison jerky and both have been delicious. This is a fairly large appliance and if you are counter space challenged you won't want to leave it out all the time. But it works so well and the things that come out of it are so yummy you won't want to put it away. The outside cleans up easily and the drying trays themselves require a little more effort. The mesh design of the drying trays (think air circulation) gives a lot of surface area for things to stick to so they just require a little more work. Be warned, when you use this your home will be filled with the delicious aroma of whatever you are making. Be prepared for salivating dogs that are unwilling to leave the kitchen and fantastic dehydrated food.

I LOVE this dehydrator! My dehydrator went into overtime at Christmas when I used it to make Beef Jerky, and Dog Treats for my family and friends! This machine gets the job done qickly. Some of the great features of this are:

I own several Lodge cast iron products and use them everyday. I have 3 teeneage boys that enjoy cooking, and after they destroyed a few teflon coated pans, I decided I would go heavy into cast iron. These pans are indestructible. You can use them in the oven or stovetop, and if you keep it seasoned properly food will not stick. Also, to avoid sticking problems, you may want to remember to allow the pan to get hot before applying oil or food.

As to seasoning, the Logic line now comes preseasoned. But don't make a big deal about this. To season a cast iron skillet simply coat it lightly with oil and bake it for a half hour or so. I have also seasoned these skillets on the stovetop. Cast iron is also great because it does not easily scrap like stainless steel and aluminum pots. Aluminum pans are painful to me, as my teeth fillings react to the aluminum. With cast iron, you won't have this problem. I also take my Lodge pan camping and set it right over the coals to cook. No melted handles or scorched bottoms to mess with.

Let me start by saying we have a kitchen full of 20+ pieces of Calphalon Hard Annodized Commercial cookware. I was always of the opinion that quality cookware carried a price that was justified by the performace of the cookware. So I thought if I wanted cast iron I should look at LeCreuset... wrong! Lodge blew that theory out the window! I can't express how well this simple pan works. Let it get hot and it will hold the temp like nothing else, oven to cooktop. I finally decided to get a good cast iron skillet after hearing Alton Brown (Host of Good Eats - ...- TV Food Network - ...) rave about cast iron for the last few years. He steared me to Lodge, Lodge's web site (lodgemgf.com) told me about the pre-seasoned "Logic" line. This stuff makes cast iron simple. No messing around with seasoning a new pan. Simple care instructions. And clear instructions to reseason should the need occur. At the price these pans sell, there is no excuse to not have one, (or more) in your kitchen. It will soon become your favorite pan. I bought a 5 quart Lodge Logic Dutch Oven at the same time and it is fantastic as well!

I own three pieces of cast iron cookware, and this item is one of them... and among my favorite cooking implements, period. In fact, I use this skillet most of all, and it doesn't even have a place in a cabinet! I keep it on the stove permanently, for that is how often I use it.

Beware that cast iron is not a quickie-cooking component (it takes time for the iron to heat, and it takes experience to gauge the iron's "perfect temperature" for sensitive dishes), but for dishes requiring steady, even heat and for cooks who require durable cookware with easy clean-up, cast iron CANNOT be beat!

This skillet is going to last forever. Its care is easy: I scrub it with hot water only, and dry it with an old rag and apply a thin layer of vegetable oil while the iron is still hot... a year and a half later, it's still rust-free and delivering the reliable service I have come to expect and admire. No scratches interfere with its performance, as is the case with my allegedly-long-lasting Wearever nonstick cookware set (what a waste of money THAT was!). Heck, I even use my cast-iron skillet for CREPES, and that's saying something! Despite the pan's weight, it's an immeasurably better nonstick crepe-cooker than teflon. In fact, I use my cast iron cookware for everything from french fries to spaghetti sauce to eggs and bacon to french toast! It's a dependable griddle, skillet, grill, and pot, and it goes right from the stovetop and into the oven for maximum versatility.

I am an avid home-chef, and I can say without exception that my cast-iron cookware is the best kitchen investment I've ever made.

Cast iron skillets, and Dutch Ovens are probably the most versatile pans you can own; it's a fact that fights have actually broken out in families over who is going to inherit the heirloom cast iron cookware after a loved one passes. Lodge Manufacturing, in South Pittsburg, Tennessee produces some of the last cast iron pieces to actually be made in America. They also happen to make the best in the world. They produce the only type of skillet I've seen that can go from the stovetop, right into the oven, and then onto the table. In addition, these pans can be used with great success over an open fire while camping, something no other cookware can do. Since this skillet comes preseasoned, you get to skip the job of seasoning the pan before it's first use. However, if you don't maintain this preseasoning, you'll have to reapply a new coat.



Seasoning cast iron is a very simple process, the instructions that follow apply to any piece of cast iron cookware needing seasoned. First, heat the oven to 400 degrees, then, using your hands, coat the iron pan inside and out, including the handle, with SOLID SHORTENING ONLY, such as Crisco(not butter flavored), or even lard. Then bake it, upside down, on the upper oven rack for an hour. Line the ovens bottom rack with alumnium foil and you'll catch the drippings that fall as the shortening melts and gets absorbed by the iron. Then allow the pan to cool before attempting to handle it again. If your oven has a hooded fan, you will want to run it to remove the fumes and odors caused by the melting shortening. That's all there is to it. You can also do this process outside in a gas grill, or even a charcoal grill so long as it has a cover. Afterward, you will want to fry fatty foods such as bacon, fried chicken, or fish in your newly seasoned pan, as these types of oily foods help to reinforce the new seasoning you've just applied. After a round of frying bacon or chicken, your skillet will be ready for virtually anything else you want to cook in it.



This skillet will quickly become the most frequently used pan in your kitchen, and that's a good thing because the more you use it, the more seasoning you're actually applying to the iron. Some have complained that they have lost a small area of the seasoning in their pan, and have had to remove the rest of the seasoning by hand before reapplying the Chriso and baking process. Actually, you can follow the steps above and be just fine. If, for some reason though, you have to remove all the seasoning, simply put the pan upside down in the oven and run the oven through the cleaning cycle once, then allow the oven and pan to cool. The skillet will come out like the day it was made, but you must wash, dry, and reseason it right then and there. Doing so will prevent rust, which is one of the few real dangers to cast iron. Two other dangers include, never adding or running cold water into a hot iron skillet or Dutch Oven because the sudden temperature change will cause the pan to crack. And finally, NEVER, under any circumstances, wash a cast iron pan in a dishwasher. Dishwasher soap is strong enough to remove even the oldest seasoning and the steamy, humid environment created during the drying cycle will then cause the pan to rust.



Clean all cast iron pieces by hand with hot water and a stiff bristled brush, NO SOAP EVER, and then dry the piece right after washing using a paper towel. You can then apply a very light shot of cooking spray, inside and out, to protect the pans seasoning; paper towels are helpful in spreading the spray over the pans entire surface. I realize this has been a rather long review, but I hope the various instructions listed above are helpful to first time buyers/users of cast iron cookware.



Finally, for first time buyers, I recommend purchasing the Lodge Preseasoned 3 skillet set which includes a 6", 8", and a 10" skillet, in addition to this 12 inch pan. Together, whether cooking in the kitchen or over an open fire while camping, these 4 skillets will give you the versatility of cooking for one person or the entire family. You will also want to get a Lodge Preseasoned Iron Lid and a regular splatter screen for this skillet because they raise the potential uses of the pan even more. I've used cast iron for years, and it really is the way to go. If you consider the cost of other types of cookware, and how long it will last when compared to cast iron, you really can't go wrong with purchasing 3 or 4 pieces for your everyday use. Remember too, that your kids, and their kids in turn, will be using these pans long after you're gone. With a probable service life of more than one hundred years, I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Here's the deal, this pan is awesome, if you keep it on your stove. Its too easy to use your typical non-stick pans when making eggs/grilled cheese etc. At first, I used this pan only for blackening, once you get it properly seasoned over time, you will use it for everything. Its cheap, you can throw it on the grill or in the oven, even over a fire. You will have this forever



Cleaning----OK, I've done the most research on this subject. I just wasn't comfortable not thoroughly cleaning this product after use. Now I do exactly what Lodge recommends. Stiff brush, hot water. No soap! Trust me on this. After you wash it, throw it on the stove on low heat. This will evaporate any water that is left on it. After that, leave it on the stove, you are done. The more you use it, the less oil you will have to use each time. Don't make the mistake I made in the beginning, by using a scraper and a scouring pad. Start out with this cast iron peice. It is versatile and if you like it you can expand your collection

I've avoided making salads for a long time because of the preparation time. I had an older salad spinner, but it was the kind you had to turn, and cleaning it afterwards always seemed to take a long time. This spinner is a huge improvement over any I've used before.

You put the rinsed greens in the strainer, or rinse them after they're in, and then put the strainer in the bowl. One easy push and it spins on its own and it does not move around at all on the counter. I have found that it takes a couple spins to dry them the way I like, but while the greens are spinning, you can be chopping up other salad ingredients.

Even better, you can lock the handle in the "down" position and use this spinner to store the unused greens in the fridge; no separate "lettuce saver" is needed. I've had leaf lettuce in mine for several days, and it is still crisp and fresh. Since buying this remarkable spinner, I've had salad every night. And enjoyed every minute of it, preparation included!

If you love salads but hate the prep, get this. You will wonder how you ever got along without it.

If you want to get a bit fancy with your salad spinning, this is the one to buy. Not only can you spin the lettuce and remove all the water, you can use the bowl to serve a salad or store lettuce in the inner bowl.



It is so easy to use. You release the lock mechanism at the top and press down. The inner basket starts to spin, removing most of the water from the lettuce. I love the fact that you can rinse the lettuce in the removable inner basket.



You really win with this one. Wash, spin, store...so much less to wash and it is never boring. It is quite large so you do need a big space to store it in the refrigerator, unless you have a big refrigerator, then it is no problem.



If you have memories of trying to swing lettuce around in a kitchen towel, or have tried to use paper towels while they are falling apart all over the lettuce, you must try spinning in this great salad spinner. Once you have spun the lettuce you can remove the inner bowl and dump out the water.

I was introduced to OXO tools by my sister when she gave me one of their peelers. She swore that it would make me search for things to peel because it was such a pleasure to use. She was absolutely right! Since then I have become an avid OXO devotee and own many of their products. But the VERY BEST of them all is the Good Grips Salad Spinner. I adore leafy lettuce but always found washing it to be such a chore that on some days I would just skip the salad routine altogether. I had used several styles of lettuce spinners during the past 20 years, but none were even in the same league as the OXO Salad Spinner. Believe it or not --- I actually enjoy washing greens with this device and use it every day. Using the best tool available makes any task more satisfying, and this is the creme de la creme of salad spinners. Have no doubt, this is a purchase you will be glad you made each time you use it. And you will want to use it! I've found that washing the lettuce and draining the excess water from the bowl, then refrigerating the lettuce in the spinner before spinning yields crispy greens. The first time I heard about a salad spinner I thought, "oh please - is anyone really that lazy?" Then I saw it being used and tasted the crisp, clean, DRY lettuce that emerged and couldn't get to the store quickly enough. I didn't want to spend much money, so I picked one up at IKEA. Big Mistake. Its true that you get what you pay for. Thankfully, my old IKEA spinner passed on to the the great salad bar in the sky last summer and I was able to justify purchasing an OXO spinner. Oh. My. God. The experience is akin to going from a Pinto to a Porche. Not only is it a solid, dependable product (the plastic bowl is thick enough to feel substantial and sturdy enough to stay put while in use) but it is a wonderful size and the salad can be served straight from the bowl. If you're like me, you've used dozens of differant salad spinners in your days in the kitchen. Well, let me tell you, this one is like no other. I used to be resigned to placing two hands firmly on my spinner to prevent that terrible shaking and trembling from the centrifugal forces exerted by the spinning water and greens. Well, no longer with this product by Oxo...the solid design keeps the spinner absolutely still, which is no small feat considering the weight of water swirling at some mad rate of rpm. This is more than a great kitchen product...it is a feat of science, and a pleasure to use.
